It’s been said many times now that the low mortality rate is because of improvements in modern warfare, medicine, and the ability to get troops proper care in the field.

That said, the morbidity rate (burns, lost limbs, blindness, etc) has offset the mortality and gone through the roof. All the troops that we kept from dying just live disabled and handicapped. And the number of troops with PTSD and drug dependencies (whether illegal or prescription) is the same as any other armed conflict.
