Eel Blenny
Tiny blennies such as this spinyhead poke out from the coral in Cuba’s Cayo Largo, always on the lookout for edible items within darting reach. “They are no bigger than an infant’s finger, but they are tigersâ€â€extremely aggressive and territorial,” says photographer David Doubilet. “They seem to have no concept of their own size.”

Monkey Waiters
In a Japanese “sake house” in the city of Utsunomiya, north of Tokyo, 2 macaque monkeys, called Yatchan and Fukuchan work as waiters. Most of the customers tip them with boiled soya-beans. The owner Kaoru Otsuka only has them work 2 hour shifts so that he doesn’t violate the animal rights regulations.

Human Skull, Peru, 2000
All that remains of the Peruvian cloud people, the Chachapoya, lie in muddy tombs such as this one on the eastern slopes of the Andes. The ancient culture, which built mountaintop fortresses and fiercely resisted the Inca, survived from the 9th to the 15th centuries. Many of the trinkets the Chachapoya buried with their dead have been lost to looters over the centuries.

Needless to say that when I refound it in my picture folder I nervously lol’d.

Cassowaries
Cassowaries are the world’s most dangerous birds, capable of dealing fatal blows. They are very unpredictable, aggressive creatures, especially if wounded or cornered. All cassowaries are usually shy birds of the deep forest, adept at disappearing long before a human knows they are there. The Southern Cassowary is the second heaviest extant bird in the world after the ostrich. It is third tallest after the ostrich and emu. Wounded or cornered birds are particularly dangerous. Cassowaries, deftly using their surroundings to conceal their movements, have been known to out-flank organized groups of human predators. Cassowaries are considered to be one of the most dangerous animals to keep in zoos, based on the frequency and severity of injuries incurred by zookeepers.

Industrial Hemp
Industrial hemp has many uses, including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, health food, and fuel. It is one of the fastest growing biomasses known, and one of the earliest domesticated plants known. It also runs parallel with the “Green Future” objectives that are becoming increasingly popular. Hemp requires little to no pesticides, no herbicides, controls erosion of the topsoil, and produces oxygen. Furthermore, hemp can be used to replace many potentially harmful products, such as tree paper (the processing of which uses bleaches and other toxic chemicals, and contributes to deforestation), cosmetics, and plastics, most of which are petroleum-based and do not decompose easily.

Asteroid leaves tracks
Tags:APOD, Science!, Space, Wallpaper
Explanation: On October 7, the early dawn over northern Sudan revealed this twisted, high altitude trail. Captured in a video frame, the long-lasting persistent train is from the impact of a small asteroid cataloged as 2008 TC3. That event was remarkable because it was the first time an asteroid was detected in space before crashing into planet Earth’s atmosphere. In fact, after astronomers discovered 2008 TC3, the time and location of its impact were predicted based on follow-up observations. Later, the impact predictions were confirmed by sensors, including a Meteosat-8 image of a bright flash in the atmosphere. Astronomers are now hoping for more reports of local ground-based observations of what must have been a brilliant meteor streaking through Sudan’s night sky. Additional reports could improve the chances of recovering meteorites.
