This will only bug you if you are conceited and believe that the world is centered upon you.

I am afraid to ask what you think about this whole Earth rotating the Sun thing.

This oddity isn’t because of conceited Americans who think they’re the center of everything, it’s because of conceited Europeans who thought they were the center of everything.

At the time the term came up, was there an easier way for a euro-dude to explain how to get to asia-land than expending the time and energy to raise one’s arm and point a finger east?

Not conceited Europeans – conceited religious fanatics (Christians/Jews) who think of Jerusalem as the center of the universe: http://www.zionism-israel.com/maps/Jerusalem_1581_Map.htm (I guess that’s why Greece is the cradle of “Western” civilization, while Syria is in the “Middle East”)

Completely wrong, actually, as everything was centered on Britain. But we see the bigot come out, don’t we…

Sorry… I missed your line at the bottom.

Forward my derision to the creator.

You also seem to have missed the joke.

    Luke Magnifico

I live where I live, right?

But I also live in what my own media calls “The West”

So I live west of myself.

    So that means

There’s another one of me out there.

And I must hunt and kill him.

Have you considered that he may have had had the same idea by now?

Back in the day, the known world surrounded the Mediterranean. There was the ‘Orient’ (the East)
and the ‘Occident’, or West, of which N. America
became a part – about 1,500 yrs later.

Yes, it’s relative, and the twain have met: big time.
