Robert E Lee statue removed from US Capitol Barbara Rose Johns to replace him

Governor Ralph Northam announced on December 21 that Virginia’s statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee was removed from the United States Capitol overnight. Lee’s statue has stood in the Capitol for 111 years alongside George Washington as the statue representation for the commonwealth of Virginia. On December 16, the Commission for Historical Statues in the United States Capitol selected civil rights icon, Barbara Rose Johns, to replace the Robert E.
