Looks like suicide. He had been suffering from depression. Very sad news.

Here he is in (hopefully) happier times. Depressives can be very good at hiding their illness.

    what the fuck Robin.

    1 – you were religious. you did a movie in which you played a character that had to find his wife who committed a mortal sin: suicide.

    2 – how the fuck are people that don’t half even 1/100th of your talent or success supposed to deal this? If one of the all time american comedian greats can’t keep it together, how is some idiot website manager supposed to?

    fuck you man. I’ll feel differently about this in the future I know, but right now I’m angerly depressed.

    I completely agree. This makes me so incredibly sad. The film Dead poets society was so important to me growing up. Oh Captain, my Captain.

    No-one is immune from depression. It’s a horribly insidious illness and kills a huge percentage of the population every single day. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and indeed, fans. (Anger is a very common response to suicide Tiki)

    Talent, success and fame do not protect you from depression. Substance abuse was a factor as well, which no doubt messed up his brain chemistry even more. Poor man.

    Who knows what battles he was having and what demons he had to deal with? And apparently sometimes, success and fame can make fighting depression more difficult, not easier.

    Depression isn’t about success or money.
    It isn’t about religion either.

    It’s just some bad chemistry or bad wiring that messes up your thinking and can make life (even a great life) intolerable.

    So sad.

    My wife’s Grandmother committed suicide when my mother-in-law was young. The scar that event left on the family to this day is immeasurable. Depression runs deep in the family and I see it often. It is an incredibly horrible thing.
    I feel awful for the Williams family. It is going to be a tough journey for all of them. Very sad.

    It’s actually fairly common for funny people to be depressed. “Sad clown” is listed on TVtropes for a reason.

    I was never a fan of his acting, but this news made me really sad as he seemed to be a genuinely nice person, and I’m sure the people in his life will miss him deeply. Rest in piece, Genie.
