At least 11 Brazilian soldiers died in the Haitian quake, all of them serving in the United Nations peace mission to Haiti: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Stabilization_Mission_in_Haiti

Holy crap, that’s a lot of people. How many zeroes in a brazillian?

Very sad indeed. Gonna get up early and go buy food to donate

Better to donate money, as food (and clothings, supplies, etc) need to be shipped, and that costs the relief organizations a lot of money. They prefer to purchase what they need there. It’s better for the local economy anyways.

Money helps but they’re still buying much of the food and supplies locally and shipping it down there. A relief organization isn’t going to run into all the Port-au-Prince Shops that are still standing, buy everything, and leave nothing for the habitants?

I’m not condoning the donation of money to them either, it paves the way for the goods to get there.

I wasn’t even aware there was a fault line there. Earthquakes are real bad news.

I’d donate money but here in my town they’re specifically asking for water and food
