    Wave!

    n18_00000018

When the wave conditions are right a wave appears, infrequently, as a result of the splash back off the cliff connecting with an incoming wave. This causes the incoming wave to pop up, creating fan-like shapes. On this particular day, over the two hours I spent on the rocks, this wave only appeared once. This is that shot. Kurt Cobain and William Burroughs

    4128468718_3d63f2e461_o

On August 2nd, 1993, Kurt Cobain wrote the following letter to Beat legend William Burroughs. Cobain had been a fan of the author’s work for many years and even collaborated with Burroughs on The “Priest” They Called Him in 1992, but to Cobain’s dismay they still hadn’t met. In preparation for the video to Heart-Shaped Box, Cobain wrote to Burroughs and asked him to appear, even if it meant disguising his face to avoid unwanted attention. He politely declined. Cobain did eventually meet Burroughs, in October of that year, and they exchanged gifts.

Cobain passed away six months later.

    REPOST, YES! But irresistible!:)
The Bugatti Type 41, better known as the Royale, was a large luxury car with a 4.3 m (169.3 in) wheelbase and 6.4 m (21 ft) overall length. It weighed approximately 3175 kg (7000 lb) and used a 12.7 L (12763 cc/778 in³) straight-8 engine.
For comparison, the Royale is about as heavy as a large modern commercial pickup truck, such as a Ford Super Duty F-450, but it is about 10% longer. When compared to the modern Rolls-Royce Phantom, it is about 20% longer, and more than 25% heavier.

The Beriev A-40 Al’batros (“Albatross”, NATO reporting name: Mermaid) was a jet-engined amphibious flying boat designed by the Beriev Aircraft Company for the anti-submarine warfare role. Intended as a replacement for the Beriev Be-12 amphibian and the land-based Ilyushin Il-38[2], the project was suspended after only two prototypes had been manufactured, due to the break up of the Soviet Union.[3] Recent reports suggest the project has been revived and that an order has been placed by the Russian Navy.

The Caproni Ca.60 Noviplano was a nine-wing flying boat intended to be a prototype for a 100-passenger trans-atlantic airliner. It featured eight engines and three sets of triple wings. Two pontoons, mounted on each side, were intended to give the aircraft stability. Only one example of this aircraft was built by Caproni. The prototype only made one short flight on 4 March 1921 over Lake Maggiore in Italy. The aircraft attained an altitude of only 18 m (60 ft) and crashed shortly thereafter, breaking up on impact. The pilot escaped unscathed. The wrecked airplane was recovered, but burned in a mysterious fire.

Crescent Earth from the Departing Rosetta Spacecraft

    crescentearth_rosetta_big.png (295 KB)

Explanation: Goodbye Earth. Earlier this month, ESA’s interplanetary Rosetta spacecraft zoomed past the Earth on its way back across the Solar System. Pictured above, Earth showed a bright crescent phase featuring the South Pole to the passing rocket ship. Launched from Earth in 2004, Rosetta used the gravity of the Earth to help propel it out past Mars and toward a 2014 rendezvous with Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Last year, the robot spacecraft passed asteroid 2867 Steins, and next year it is scheduled to pass enigmatic asteroid 21 Lutetia. If all goes well, Rosetta will release a probe that will land on the 15-km diameter comet in 2014.
