The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast lies Mega City One – a vast violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. Iron Giant Signature Edition review

When The Iron Giant arrived in theaters in 1999, it was hailed as an “instant classic” by Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal, and the world soon learned that another “giant” had arrived as well: filmmaker Brad Bird, who made his stunning directorial debut with this film and has gone on to win two Oscars, as well as worldwide acclaim for his work on both animated and live-action features. Winner of 9 Annie Awards, remastered and enhanced with two all-new scenes, The Iron Giant: Signature Edition is the tale of an unlikely friendship between an alien robot from outer space (voiced by Vin Diesel) and a rebellious boy named Hogarth (voiced by Eli Marienthal), his bedraggled mom (voiced by Jennifer Aniston), a paranoid government agent (voiced by Christopher McDonald), and a sympathetic beatnik (voiced by Harry Connick, Jr.) all conspire to turn Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant into a gigantic, out-of-this-world adventure.

The “Signature Editions” is only $4.99 on amazon right now, it was ‘free’ for me since I had so many of these ‘no rush’ credits sitting around, so it may be that cheap for you as well, and I believe it ports to MoviesAnywhere, so you can watch it on your choice of devices.

This movie always reminded me of the max fleischer superman cartoons, both because of the obvious mention of the man himeself, but both the animation style and the Iron Giant’s design itself seems inspired from those earlier cartoons.

If you haven’t seen this one yet, now’s the time, it’s a great one!

The Mummy Returns review

Now, as the fate of all mankind hangs in the balance, Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evie (Rachel Weisz) embark on a daring, desperate race to save their son – and the world – from unspeakable evil. The Mummy Returns is supercharged with pulse-pounding action and spectacular special effects that’ll blow you away.

I’m happy I watched these out of order, this is the worst of the three. Not sure if it was the precocious kid, the repeated villain, the bad Rock CGI or the silly big army #1 vs big army #2 fight that showed up.

That being said, it was still an enjoyable film, just not as good as the other two.
