    The NeverEnding Story

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen. With Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver, Tami Stronach, Gerald McRaney. A troubled boy dives into a wondrous fantasy world through the pages of a mysterious book.

After watching The Princess Bride, my wife suggested we continue the 80’s marathon, so we watched this, even though I still tear up at like 5 different scenes.

SonofSimon: “So I asked Bill a question some of you are thinking of if you’re into that world, which I find to be pretty interesting. So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said, that hasn’t been checked but you’re gonna test it. And then I said, supposing it brought the light inside the body, which you can either do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re gonna test that too, sounds interesting. And I then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute, and is there a way you can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it’d be interesting to check that. So you’re going to have to use medical doctors, but it sounds interesting to me, so we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it goes in one minute, that’s pretty powerful.” – Trump

Sentinel: The artist did good work. But I don’t get why they would use the normal profile for everyone except Cat, who gets his terrible alter-ego “Duane Dibbley” instead.

    Damnation Alley

Directed by Jack Smight. With Jan-Michael Vincent, George Peppard, Dominique Sanda, Paul Winfield. In a post-apocalyptic world, a group of survivors travel and find other settlements in huge custom designed all terrain vehicles.

I saw the story for this advertised in the back of some recent post apocalyptic magazine or book I read and figured it sounded cool. While it does sound cool, it unfortunately feels more like a 50’s science fiction film with large insects and scorpions as the primary motivators of action. The ending is very much to write home about either, felt like they just ran out of money and said “oh hey, they made it there, freeze frame, movie’s done!”.

    Gunfight at Comanche Creek

Directed by Frank McDonald. With Audie Murphy, Ben Cooper, Colleen Miller, DeForest Kelley. In 1875 a murderous outlaw gang breaks criminals from jail, uses them to help in crimes, and then kills them for the reward, when it goes high enough.

Watched because the movie was mentioned in a Star Trek book I’m reading, when they mentioned that De Forest Kelly was unlikely to be taken seriously as a kind doctor, as he had just played a horrible, no good outlaw in “Gunfight at Comanche Creek”. The movie’s pretty good, though there’s less De in the movie than I was expecting from the big deal they made about his role in the book.
