For some folks it’s also the inability to believe that we exist by coincidence, the universe at large is a cold unforgiving hellscape to our kind of life, and if there are aliens out there they will murder us the first chance they get because we’d do the same to them.
I tend to think that the reasons that Aliens don’t bother us is because we are their version of a quarantined Appalachia.
