I have to admit I do not understand half of these references.

Crowd-source? Auto-tune? Ironic mustaches? Federer & Nadal? Not John & Kate? T. Boone Pickens? Did I sleep under a rock for five years, or has the internet been plotting to confuse me?

Auto-Tune used to be used as a form of note correction for singers. It artificially raised or lowered the pitch of their voice to make it sound like they were singing on key. It has been recently abused by rap/pop/hip hop artists as a vocal effect, to make themselves sound like robots. T-Pain pioneered the use of it as an effect.
