    Duck Dynasty Doomed to Die?

The Robertson family says the final season will be their best season yet on A&E. A&E

In a statement accompanying the video, the cable network said: “After five years, 130 episodes and one of the biggest hits in the history of cable, the Robertson family and A&E jointly decided that Duck Dynasty, the series, will come to an end after this season.”

USA Today is reporting that the open bigots that starred in the sadly successful “Duck Dynasty” have had their show canceled. Good riddance, hope A&E is able to fill the hours that Duck Dynasty had before with more episodes of people finding fake trash in fake storage units, then selling it to their fake friends.

Donald Trump Appoints Racist and Religious Bigot to be Attorney General

Guess who’s coming to the White House? (spoilers, it’s openly racist and religious zelot Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions)

    NYTimes.com:

WASHINGTON — In 1981, a Justice Department prosecutor from Washington stopped by to see Jeff Sessions, the United States attorney in Mobile, Ala., at the time. The prosecutor, J. Gerald Hebert, said he had heard a shocking story: A federal judge had called a prominent white lawyer “a disgrace to his race” for representing black clients.

    Washington Post:

In 1986, he was denied a federal judgeship after former colleagues testified before a Senate committee that he joked about the Ku Klux Klan, saying he thought they were “okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana.”

    National Law Journal:

The senator recalled one quote from Sotomayor that, he said, “still makes the hair stand on my neck.” He explained: “She said there is no objectivity, just a series of perspectives.” He suggested that the problem may be that Sotomayer [sic] and other judges aren’t sufficiently religious: “If you have secularization in the world and don’t believe in a higher being, maybe you don’t believe there is any truth.”

More on Friendly Atheist, but holy fuck, I guess we know what direction Trump is going in and it certainly isn’t a good one.

George Takei wrote an essay on the internment of his family during WW2

There is dangerous talk these days by those who have the ear of some at the highest levels of government. Earlier this week, Carl Higbie, an outspoken Trump surrogate and co-chair of Great America PAC, gave an interview with Megyn Kelly of Fox News. They were discussing the notion of a national Muslim registry, a controversial part of the Trump administration’s national security plans, when Higbie dropped a bombshell: “We did it during World War II with Japanese, which, you know, call it what you will,” he said. Was he really citing the Japanese American internment, Kelly wanted to know, as grounds for treating Muslims the same way today? Higbie responded that he wasn’t saying we should return to putting people in camps. But then he added, “There is precedent for it.”

The Washington Post has the full essay. I’m horrified that this is something we legitimately have to be concerned about.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to miss it’s launch date?

Bleeding Cool is reporting that the game miss the launch of the Nintendo Switch, which if true is a damn shame.  That’s really the only game that was making the system a must buy for my wife.

FTC Coming Down on Homeopathic Drugs?

    homeopathy

For the vast majority of OTC homeopathic drugs, the policy statement notes, “the case for efficacy is based solely on traditional homeopathic theories and there are no valid studies using current scientific methods showing the product’s efficacy.” As such, the marketing claims for these products are likely misleading, in violation of the FTC Act.

However, the policy statement also notes that “the FTC has long recognized that marketing claims may include additional explanatory information to prevent the claims from being misleading. Accordingly, it recognizes that an OTC homeopathic drug claim that is not substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence might not be deceptive if the advertisement or label where it appears effectively communicates that: 1) there is no scientific evidence that the product works; and 2) the product’s claims are based only on theories of homeopathy from the 1700s that are not accepted by most modern medical experts.

The policy statement notes that any such disclosures should stand out and be in close proximity to the product’s efficacy message and might need to be incorporated into that message. It also warns marketers not to undercut a disclosure with additional positive statements or consumer endorsements reinforcing a product’s efficacy. The statement warns that the FTC will carefully scrutinize the net impression of OTC homeopathic marketing claims and that if an ad conveys more substantiation than a marketer has, it will violate the FTC Act.

Who Seth Rich is and why his death is being used as a tool by the ignorant to enrich themselves

    flagshirt_famous-582cd8e13817d

While Donald Trump defied almost every prediction by winning the presidential election last week, his diehard supporters rejoiced on Trump-friendly forums like Reddit’s “The_Donald” page.

They thanked the obvious people—Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, Breitbart News president turned Trump campaign CEO Steve Bannon. They praised Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder who published Democratic National Committee emails suspected to have been obtained by Russian hackers.

But some of the most effusive praise went to a Democrat. Seth Rich, a 27-year-old DNC employee whose July murder in D.C.’s Bloomingdale neighborhood remains unsolved, has taken on a surprising martyrdom among Trump supporters. In their telling—based on zero evidence—mysterious forces allied with Hillary Clinton killed Rich as payback for leaking DNC emails to Wikileaks.

His death was a sad event, but the abuse of his death by racists and white nationalists is even sadder. I’m about ready for Reddit to make some bigger changes to stop subreddits like “The_Donald” from reaching the front page.

Planet Of The Apes/Green Lantern Crossover

    unnamed-21-1-600x910

When Taylor goes missing, Cornelius investigates and discovers an ancient ring, unlike anything he has ever seen. As its power echoes through the stars, the Guardians of the Universe must reveal to their Lanterns a secret they had hoped would remain buried. With the Green Lantern Corps, led by Hal Jordan, racing to get to the source of this power before Sinestro can get his hands on it, they will discover a truth that will change them forever on…the Planet of the Apes!

This sounds as stupid as the Green Lantern / Star Trek crossover, hopefully they do as well as that did, because the Star Trek crossover ended up being pretty good with a story that made sense.

‘Donald Trump is manifestly unqualified to be president,’ biographer says

    36364938_303

Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist David Cay Johnston has been following Trump’s career since 1988. In “The Making of Donald Trump,” the former New York Times reporter and registered Republican calls the president-elect a ‘dictator’ and a ‘deceiver’ with no regard for the people who elected him.
