    The Mummy review

    81iuTQZz6WL. SL1500 804x1024 The Mummy

Deep in the Egyptian desert, a handful of people searching for a long-lost treasure have just unearthed a 3,000 year old legacy of terror.

Two reviews here, one for the movie (which is excellent and still holds up very well) and one for the Universal Home Media Entertainment digital redemption system.

The movie first: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are absolute perfection in this loose remake of the original Mummy film from 1932, with modern
/ late 90’s CGI and a great story and acting that I really can’t find many flaws in, other than some of the unfortunate computer aided special effects looking obvious next to the fantastic practical effects. I <3 Brendan Fraser!

That being said, the redemption of the code for this movie was a bit of a nightmare to figure out. You get a slip that has the code, which tells you to go to www.uphe.com/redeem/ to redeem your code. Plug in your code, it’ll find your movie (4k/HD/SD included per this screen), then you hit a snag on the “next” screen where it asks you to select a retailer or select a digital redemption source, Flixter and iTunes respectively are the only choices on this screen. Selecting flixter sends you to a page that tells you that Flixter is no more, RIP and maybe you can try your luck at VUDU, which of course the code doesn’t work at all on their site. Backing up to the beginning of the process if you were to select itunes, it’ll redeem the code just fine, but then you find out that your 4k code is only redeeming as HD, so you’re forced to watch the fuzzy and nearly unwatchable HD stream instead of the 4k stream. Sarcasm aside, I reached out to Apple support who I’m still playing ping pong with via email, I don’t think they even offer the movie as a 4k stream, so I’m frustrated that they were the only viable choice for redeeming the digital code.

Star Wars The Last Jedi review

915ZKRTL. RI SX300 Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Star Wars saga continues in The Last Jedi as the heroes and galactic legends go on an epic adventure unlocking mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

This is an enjoyable movie, just as long as you know next to nothing about the Star Wars universe. If you do, boy howdy are there are some problems going on here that were started as small problems in The Force Awakens and only get worse in this sequel. The problems I had with TLJ:

    1. Way too short of a time period being covered in the movie, it’s only about 72 hours of actual in universe time from the moment Rey meets Luke to the confrontation on the red dust planet.
    2. Now they’re concerned about fuel? Why now? Also, what happened to the rest of the Galactic fleet? Where’s the New Republic?
    3. The entire side adventure with Rose and Finn is dumb dumb dumb and only serves to distract from the main story that’s going on.
    4. The fresh milk scene.  WTF no thanks.

    Daddys Home 2 review

    61OQDSJHmTL. SL1056 726x1024 Daddys Home 2

When it comes to raising their kids, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) finally have this co-parenting thing down. That is, until their dads come to town, putting their newfound partnership to the ultimate test in this hilarious comedy.

This scene came across reddit the other week and man that blew me away. Turns out the movie was only $2 for an itunes code!

It was very funny and I enjoyed seeing all these guys working off each other’s energy, it’s a great family christmas movie that I can see myself watching annually.

    Stardust review

    81rJEXTDWmL. SL1500 721x1024 Stardust

Escape into the enchanted world of chivalry and romance in Stardust, an epic tale starring Claire Danes with Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.

Michelle Pfeiffer absolutely killed it as a dark witch hunting a fallen star, I absolutely loved her performance here, along with the makeup and special effects that were used to age / de-age her so many times.

    Lara Croft Tomb Raider review

    A1YRY3sXPyL. SL1500 814x1024 Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Video game adventurer Lara Croft comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts.

It’s been years and years since I’ve seen this movie and despite it’s release date being firmly in 2001, it has a distinct 90’s flair to it. I only went back to watch this one because of the reboot and because it was on Netflix and we were all amped up to watch more Tomb Raiders doing their thing.

    Level 92 Kirk Hamilton Kotaku

Kirk Hamilton is the Editor-At-Large for Kotaku.com, and he’s always been a huge fan of music in games. He studied jazz at the University of Miami, and ended up out in the Bay Area being a saxophonist for a while and teaching music. I’ve always enjoyed talking with Kirk about game music, so I asked him on to talk about what some of his more recent favorites are lately.

Patrons, you’ll have access to a bonus clip of Kirk and I talking about playing Destiny 2, which was a lot newer when we spoke last year.

Kirk is great – I’m glad he loves game music so much ?

This is a monthly message to help keep MCS afloat!

Over the past 10 years, what began as a personal image blog has turned into viable community of many contributors with new posts going up every hour, every day. I’d like to reduce and remove all the advertising on the site, dedicate more time to MCS in general, expand the reach of MCS, and I think the best way to do that is Patreon!

In order to do this, I’ve created a page at Patreon.

Check out these awesome benefits available:

Become a Patreon today, for as low as $2 a month, MCS+ badges kick in at the $5 level, which according to my calculations is 2 bud lights or 1 craft beer.  Do you feel like the entertainment provided on MCS is worth a single craft beer? I do, which is why I sink so much time and effort into the site.

To those of you that are already Patrons, you have my heart filled bloody thanks.

Trump furious over leak of warning to not congratulate Putin

President Donald Trump was infuriated after it quickly leaked that he had been directly instructed by his national security advisers in briefing materials not to congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent election victory during their call Tuesday morning, a source familiar with the President

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today to see what the wacky right wing was saying, and he was more upset that someone leaked the ALL CAPS warning to not congratulate the Russians than he was that our President was congratulating a near dictator on his fraudulent victory of a shame election.
