    The Recall review

    the recall The Recall

Five young friends plan a weekend escape, but their fun is interrupted when unnatural clouds cover the sky. A crazed man who calls himself The Hunter (Wesley Snipes) warns them to leave. When an alien spaceship arrives, they team up with The Hunter, a skilled survivalist, who reveals what the aliens have planned.

I feel like they had Wesley Snipes for the weekend and he demanded that he be filmed in a tree for most of his time on set. Campy and cheap but not in the good way, was less than I was hoping for, which really wasn’t much of anything, but I still feel like I paid too much for this one. (free with amazon prime)

    Floppy Images

About 20 years ago I or someone I knew put a bunch of images on a bunch of floppy disks (3.5 inch floppies!) and I just found them.  no clue if these are even remotely interesting to anyone other than me, but here they are:

Remember, back in ’93, this was the height of comedy.

House 2 The Second Story review

th House 2: The Second Story

Jesse McLaughlin’s sitting on top of the world. He’s a talented artist with a growing career and a beautiful girlfriend. And he’s moving into a magnificent house. A very special house. A house which will plunge him into an incredible adventure…one where all of his dreams, fantasies and nightmares will be realized.

Combine a western with Risky Business, Ghost Busters, Indiana Jones and a far bit of alcohol and you get House II: The Second Story. It feels like it shouldn’t work, but it does. Why did I watch House 2 and not the first House? I saw an advertisement for the movie in an issue of The Comet Man, the same issue that Stan ‘The Man’ Lee announced that Marvel Comics had been purchased by the same production company (New World Pictures), who would quickly later sell Marvel off for only $70 million dollars (Disney paid $4 billion for the company when they acquired it). This was a fun movie and the production values (and appearances of Bill Mahr and John Ratzenberger) was completely unexpected but greatly appreciated.

If you’re in need of some great 80’s creature feature movies, House 2 should be on your list of movies to check out.

    Creepozoids review

    Creepozoids 874x1024 Creepozoids

The flesh will crawl right off your bones! From legendary cult filmmaker David DeCoteau (PUPPET MASTER III, SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIME BALL BOWL-O-RAMA) and producer Charles Band (RE-ANIMATOR) comes one the most beloved B-horror/fantasy films of the 1980s: CREEPOZOIDS! Blending key elements of genre hits MAD MAX and ALIEN (while also incorporating elements of Band’s PARASITE and METALSTORM) but produced on a tenth of their budgets, CREEPOZOIDS tells the tale of five Army deserters who wander the post-apocalyptic, post-industrial LA landscape seeking shelter from an increasingly toxic environment and poisonous rain. They end up in an abandoned laboratory where they explore, have sex and eventually run afoul of a cavalcade of genetically engineered creatures including mutant rats, a monstrous baby, a massive, bloodthirsty H.R. Giger-esque beast…and something even more malevolent.

Surprisingly not done by Troma Films, which may give you an indication of he quality of the movie. This was a pretty great low quality b-rated film that had some practical monster effects that really did it for me. Nevermind that the film has a nonsense story and nevermind that the movie literally just ends with a dude walking out of a room while the monster baby he was fighting slowly turns to the screen and gets an amazing freeze frame. It’s mindless shlock, but it hits nearly every movie trope that I hold near and dear.
