    HALO Smoke and Shadow review

51k15F JeOL HALO: Smoke and Shadow

Find. Claim. Profit. In a post-war galaxy littered with scrap, it’s the salvager’s motto. And with a fast ship and a lust for adventure, Rion Forge has certainly made her mark on the trade. When the discovery of a wrecked UNSC cruiser brings Rion’s past back to haunt her, stirring fresh hope into a decades-old wound, she’s hell-bent on finding answers: What really happened to her father and his ship, the Spirit of Fire? This digital-first enovella also contains the complete text of Kelly Gay’s short story “Into the Fire,” originally featured in the collection Halo: Fractures.

This may be the first HALO novel that I’ve read that had neither Spartans nor UNSC personnel in it. I’m not happy with this idea, but I am happy where their going with the story, just as long as it eventually ends up with this salvage crew ending up on the Forge planet kicking Brute ass with the crew of a certain lost UNSC cruiser. This was a short but fun read with no Spartans.

How do you make a HALO book with no Spartans?!

    Black Panther Movie Spike Necklace

Black Panther Movie Spike Necklace Black Panther Movie Spike NecklaceCeremonial Wakandan jewelry, or the chrome-metal teeth of an unfortunate adversary?

Yes, our Black Panther Movie Spike Necklace simulates the Panther’s shiny neckwear rendered as jagged teeth.

And yes, this ceremonial Wakandan necklace features a solid front band holding seven incisors covered in a reflective chrome-metal — a metal implying a dense Vibranium coating.

And yes, this Black Panther necklace features a sturdy, adjustable, metallic chain with a solid toggle clasp.

However, there’s some startling implied history behind this very ornate costume jewelry — these metal-encased teeth previously resided in an aggressive jungle cat, or in the mouth of a very feral, ape-themed adversary.

So, yes, this gorgeous costume jewelry implies royalty and superior craftsmanship, but the teeth-shaped charms were “procured” through a savage, violent struggle.

    Front band measures 8? across.

    Center “tooth” measures 3.5? long.

Frontlines Requiem The Graphic Novel review

51rqRkfYBL. SY346 Frontlines: Requiem: The Graphic Novel

From acclaimed writer Ivan Brandon (Drifter, Viking), this four-issue comic book series features a new stand-alone story set within the action-packed military sci-fi world of Marko Kloos’s bestselling Frontlines novels. Includes stunning artwork from Gary Erskine (Star Wars, Dan Dare, Doctor Who, Judge Dredd).

I don’t remember buying this, but it was on my Kindle and when I noticed it, it was left on the last page. Amazon says “You borrowed this book for free with your Prime Reading membership on October 5, 2016” but I have no memory of buying nor reading it, so since I just read the most recent Frontlines novel, I figured I’d give this one another go.

I think I know why I don’t remember it, this is a disjointed and uneventful series of four issues that doesn’t so much as end as it just vaguely fades out. Maybe there’s supposed to be a follow up, but this is completely skippable.

War For The Planet Of The Apes review

915tvDp YSL. SL1500 823x1024 War For The Planet Of The Apes

Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are pitted against an army of humans in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species…and the future of the planet.

This reboot of the Planet of the Apes movie series has a weird trend of getting better with each sequel, this is the best of the three that have been released. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was ok but felt like it was trying too hard and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes felt like they were finding the right thread but weren’t able to follow it all the way through correctly. They’re taking a slightly longer cycle to put out each sequel, three years instead of the normal two, and I think that’s helping with the story polish that’s so evident.

War For The Planet Of The Apes isn’t the movie that you see in the trailers, there’s much more plot going on here than I thought they were going to get into with plenty of moral grey areas that everyone goes right up to and ponders the possible fallout of crossing lines that shouldn’t be crossed.

    The Assignment review

    assignment 2017 2 691x1024 The Assignment
Michelle Rodriguez is a hit man out for revenge against her former captor and rogue surgeon, Sigourney Weaver, in this action packed thriller from legendary director Walter Hill.

This a bad film, but it’s one of those bad films that’s so terribly thought out and horribly executed and so unaware of itself that it comes around the curve to be a great film to drink and scream outloud to.

Spoilers because idgaf: You see Michelle Rodriguez full frontal nude as both a man with a giant swinging dick and as a woman after a diabolical surgeon turns “him” into a woman without his approval. Rodriguez is justifiably upset about this transition and sets out to find some justice at the end of her 45s. The story means nothing after the first 20 minutes of nudity and questionable career choices and the action is not very great.

What the fuck? Rodriguez is a beautiful woman, even as a man.  They didn’t even bother to butch her up even slightly, just throwing an incredibly ineffective beard on her and a good looking prosthetic man piece.

I’m really not sure how anyone convinced Rodriguez to play the unwilling transgendered hitman and THEN able to convince Sigourney Weaver to play the mobster / evil surgeon. It’s on Amazon Prime right now, so feel free to check it out and get back to me about how you feel.

    Loving review

    A1eU3kcSWiL. SL1500 730x1024 Loving

Based on the landmark Supreme Court case, an interracial couple fights the law that they cannot be recognized as married in the state of Virginia.

ACLU to the rescue? Good film but there were parts that felt…off. Not sure if it was acting, directing, or editing related, but there were definitely moments that I was taken out of the movie with the feeling that it was a modern movie that was talking about the time period instead of the actual events themselves.
