UNIT 44 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019These comics remind me a lot of comics from the 70’s and 80s, for all the right reasons, including that glorious price.

BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT 3 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Still no delivery from Diamond for this issue.

EXILES 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019This is the final issue in a series that I never felt found its feet but none the less had fantastic ideas and art.

HEROES IN CRISIS 5 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019This entire mini series has been peppered with amazing art, a poor story, and art that’s repeated 9 times on a single page.

INCIDENTALS 15 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I think this is only my second issue of this series, so I’m pretty lost.

INFINITE DARK 4 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Final issue of the first story arc and wow this is great comic book horror.  I look forward to the next arc in a couple months.

KINO 13 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019No idea, but it wasn’t terrible.

LOST IN SPACE COUNTDOWN TO DANGER 1 326x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 201950 pages for $18, not worth it at all.  I regret buying this an urge you to not waste your money.  The cover for this comic was thicker than the pages were!

MARVEL KNIGHTS 20TH 6 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I didn’t realize this was a mini series, but this was the last issue of it.  It felt rushed and left all sorts of plot threads just hanging around out there, so I’m sure there will be a sequel.

MARVEL PREVIEWS 19 362x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019It’s just a preview of stuff that’s coming up.  I’m going to stop getting these because they’re nearly pointless at this point in time.

MYSTERIES OF LOVE IN SPACE 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Frustratingly enough, the story that interested me was how Lois Lane fell in love with Darkseid.  Guess what story wasn’t in here?  There’s a couple others that by far make up for the insult of advertising an interesting story on the cover and not even mentioning it inside.

SOLO A STAR WARS STORY 4 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I’m done with these adaptations, they’re just so lifeless and pointless.

STAR TREK THE Q CONFLICT 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I’m not a fan of what’s going on here.  The concept at it’s root is pretty cool, but it just feels so contrived that I nearly broke an eyeball whilst rolling it every other page.

STAR WARS ADVENTURES 17 COVER B 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Flight of the falcon continues!  Han finally gets shot at …again!

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA 28 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Doctor Aphra’s adventures with the burder bot continue.

THE PUNISHER 7 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Frank is still imprisoned in a soon to be new country and I have to say I’m really interested in seeing how they’re going to resolve this.  My money is that everyone gets away and there are no major deaths.  Major props to Marvel for referencing content from the original Punisher run though!

TRUE BELIEVERS CONAN RESURRECTION 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019

TRUE BELIEVERS WHAT IF CONAN THE BARBARIAN WALKED THE EARTH TODAY 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019

UNCANNY X MEN 3D 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019One of the most gimmicky things comics has ever done is the 3d glasses art style, and like a sucker, I went and bought this one for way too much money.  The effect is nearly ruined by the red part of the glasses being too dark, and none of the character’s personalities are recognizable to their modern versions, but it was still a fun read, and a reminder that I should stop buying into gimmick books just to say I experienced the stupid gimmick.

    Entrapment

    914KBExWJlL. SL1500 211x300 Entrapment

Following the theft of a valuable piece of artwork, Gin Baker, an insurance agent, convinces her employers to allow her to befriend an aging master thief, in order to better protect their clients.

Such a fantastic movie with obvious salacious elements, but it came out at a formative time in my life (13!) and at the height of Catherine Zeta Jones’ career, in my mind at least. This was also one of the last films that Sean Connery was in, and one of the first films that I remember with Ving Rhames. There’s some previous obvious and hilarious filters being used when CZJ is on the screen and it’s jarring to see during her bath and forth with Connery in a couple scenes, almost like taking your glasses off and on for each cut.

There’s a list of things that really date the film, from the way they’re stealing money during the Y2k transition, to where there doing it at the “world’s tallest building”, to the CRT monitors that show up all over the place. To wrap it all up, it ended with a song by Seal.

I enjoyed it though, even with all the rough edges.

Lego Indiana Jones 2 The Adventure Continues

91Ob2UiMakL. SL1500 213x300 Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues

Collect artifacts through the game to unlock more than 60 playable characters, including villains and supporting characters; enjoy character swapping and free-play abilities along with two-player drop-in, drop-out cooperative gameplay.

I had an absolute blast playing this, I’m pretty sure I got it with Games With Gold last year and it’s been sitting patiently on my xbox since then. I haven’t played the first one, but this one has 3 Crystal Skull story arcs, then one for each of the original movies. The Crystal skull stuff was amazing and fits in with the rest of the LEGO games pretty well, so this might be the best version of the game, where atomic powered flying refrigerators fit in with the rest of the crazy stuff that LEGO adds in. There’s some big changes to all the stories as it’s difficult to justify nazis in a LEGO game, or having enslaved children, but the changes are all for the better imho.

For a 10 year old game, it definitely holds up.

    My Cousin Vinny

    514uo2X7iIL 229x300 My Cousin Vinny

In MY COUSIN VINNY, lawyer Vincent Gambini fights heroically to save two clients who have everything against them — including the facts that Vinny isn’t from the area, has never been in a courtroom, and only passed the bar exam six weeks ago.

Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei were absolutely fantastic in this movie that I honestly don’t think would be able to be made today, if only because there’s so many damn cameras everywhere recording everything. Additionally, even backwoods Alabama would have a better legal system than what’s presented here, at least I’m assuming they would.

Regardless, I missed seeing this back in ’92, but I’m happy my wife suggested it to me, it was good to see Pesci in a wholesome role instead of as an angry / funny mobster.
