Where the Wild Things Are review

One of the most beloved books of all time is now a feature film. A classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in.

Based off a short story with less than 400 words, they really had to stretch to make a 2 hour movie> Luckily they did pretty well in scripting something that vaguely resembles the original children’s story, but with some real emotional punch.  That being said, this wasn’t the story that I wanted to watch when I watched an adaptation of Where The Wild Things Are.

I love this movie, but you’ve nailed the problem; it wasn’t the story anyone wanted to watch. It is truly a beautifully chaotic and frightening story (in the way that the child recognizing how little control he has in the world is emotionally frightening), but people weren’t expecting that. People expected a kid’s movie, not an adults movie that reminds adults how difficult it is to be a kid.
