I can’t believe anyone is upset by this. As if your washing machine’s need to know who you’re talking to, and where you are, wasn’t entirely obvious. What? You think the company might misuse that data, somehow? Sell it to someone? Other than the lessons of history, why would anyone believe that?
Yeah, not everything needs connected to the internet. And when Samsung turns off this server, congratulations, your washing machine doesn’t work any longer.
This is even better considering I recently got an email from Samsung about a data breach they suffered.
We recently had a to buy a new fridge and ended up paying more for a “dumb” fridge because I don’t need more shit connected to the internet.
