Of course they’re not the same. My grandparents ate those bananas. They’re no longer available for me to eat.

the bananas we eat are cavendish. the bananas that our grandparents ate were gros michel (fat mike). our grandkids are, likely, not going to eat bananas, because there is a blight, and in twenty years or so, all bananas, as we know them, will be extinct.

also, they can’t eliminate the blight because all bananas are clones.

Big Michel not Fat (Gras). The Blight is avoidable by turning away from monoculture farming. They know this and it will take some time to move away from it. We still have many other bananas to “clone” from (if we didn’t clone them we’d be stuck with the seeds that make then inedible).
