I think there are many problems w/ our current political system and how it’s working. I despise the many (usually but not always repubs) politicians that are contributing to the crazy hyperbole and violent imagery that characterize our current political debate and discussion, but I do not think that Palin’s rhetoric and imagery is responsible for this young girl’s murder. OTOH, this stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum…

    hairy_testicles

sheep following the media’s twisted words…

when are people going to get it, the media twist things around to try, and make them more ‘news worthy’, so you will watch longer, there sponsors can post more ads/commercials, and they can make even more money…

sure i dont like palin as a politician that much, but i do not think she played any part in the shootings in arizona, just like i do not blame any political party for it…thats like saying pencils misspell words, cars drive drunk, and spoons make people fat…

    nyoki

Not quite. Spoons, cars and pencils are inanimate objects; politicians are not. People bear responsibility for what they say. though not always for how others may react to their words.

    Bushman

And no politicians told him to go shooting that day.

The theory is that Palin’s ads and words may have done just that. That the use of military jargon and iconography imply that violence is acceptable, even called for, in this instance.

The theory he read on leftwingfaggot.com

    nyoki

…and apparently no one told him not to either.

“This shouldn’t happen in this country, or anywhere else, but in a free society, we’re going to be subject to people like this. I prefer this to the alternative.”

-John Green, Father of Christina Green (9-year-old girl murdered by Jared Lee Loughner in the Arizona massacre)

    lol at downvoting reality

Poor hippies. Nothing can save you now. You’re all fucked and deserve it.

Great quote duck, of course I had not seen it reported anywhere. Thank you for sharing.

outlanderssc. That theory is a load of crap, politics as ALWAYS used such jargon, and in the past it has been far more heated. What we have now is nothing compared to the last 250 years. The fact is we have to many people who can vote, who pay no attention to politics or the world at large. I might dislike some of the Liberal tards on McS, but least they take the time to read the news.

The other side of the coin is that we were not founded as a Democracy, but as a Representative Republic. I believe IMHO that allowing “the pubic” to vote for senators was/is a mistake. When a senator was appointed by the State legislators, it made a branch of the federal government (albeit only 4%) answerable to THAT state. I suspect there are a lot of federal mandates (of arguable Constitutionality – and no not just the one you are thinking of) that would not have been past if we repealed that amendment.

Both sides agree that smaller governments make sense but neither realizes it. Both sides agree on a lot of things. If anything America is divided by the best way to sit around and bullshit. Politics have become the half wit, pseudo intellectuals equivalent to sports.

    Tyger42

Damn you, you’re not supposed to make sensible and good points. You’re one of the trolls.

    nyoki

Yes, we’re all aware of past violent political speech and jargon. That excuses it how, exactly? Also, there’s the internet and 24 hr cable news. It’s difficult to get away from it. As reboot (I think it was him) said; sometimes you just have to check out from politics and the news and get yourself centered. It’s very difficult to maintain relationships when in a constant state of pissed-off.

    nyoki

When and where did he say that? C’mon people, gotta link this kind of thing.

    MalcoveMagnesia

If you type in the entire phrase into Google, you’ll get a lot of hits.

It took me about 5 minutes to sort through the re-blogging to find an original story & context: http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/10/arizona-shooting-youngest-victim-christina-green-had-zest-for/

The quote came from a CBS “The Early Show” interview he did and it was (the father) John Green’s closing comment.

    MalcoveMagnesia

correction (no easy way to edit here): TFA referenced two interviews John Green. The quote was actually from his NBC Today show interview.
