is it or is it not fully retarded to be standing there like that as one of those things penetrates the ice? are they part of the crew? are they just in a bad place at a bad time?
I doubt they were standing there as the sub surfaced, but they are either part of the crew or the civilian team that monitors the exercise, marks the ice for the sub, and retrieves the practice torpedo.
Trust me, it’s cramped in there.
“So, how much upward thrust does a nuclear submarine have? Enough to break the ice! Hi, lemme by you a drink …”

that ice is pretty think there
Freezing! Can’t move at all! Freezing! Can’t hear my call! I am dying to live, cry out! I’m trapped under ice!
What are all the markings in the upper right of the pic?
Intentional markings by the civilian team to tell the sub where it can surface safely.
At rest and vulnerable.
Wow – a sea of only solid white. Would be an awesome view.
