“Solves nothing & leaves America hanging”

So McCain is flip-flopping on his environment and energy policies. And for what? More here.

I both agree and disagree with this. While it would take atleast 10 to 15 years for the oil we could potentially drill from our coasts, atleast it would be the United States that would eventually benefit. Unless I’m mistaken, there are countries like Cuba and China who are looking at drilling near our waters and they wouldn’t be affected by any moritoriums. Besides, unless there is a MAJOR infrastructure change, the US will be dependant on oil for a good half century if not longer.

The problem is… that’s all they want to do…. the only way the infrastructure will change is with drastic sweeping laws that will force the private infrastructure owners… Exxon… BP… Shell and so on to do some thing… It’s sad how countries like Sweden and Norway are kicking our asses with the building of hydrogen highways. Every petrol car on the road can be converted to hydrogen… and the technology has been around for 30+ years…

I am soooo waiting for this company to start selling their hydrogen conversion

    Safer than liquid fuels…
Produced at home with solar energy…
    450 miles to a fill up… on a vette….

Where’s my picture you fucktard. I don’t want you worthless political point of view. Your vote doesn’t count anyway.

Obama supports reparations for slavery and the Indian wars.

“I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it’s Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds.”

Fuckin’ ridiculous. Get ready to fork over your money to ghetto blacks and native americans for something your ancestors may or may not have been involved in hundreds of years ago. My parents immigrated to this country around the 1970s, why the fuck should the government take a chunk out of my paycheck if my ancestors had nothing to do with this.

Fork over your paycheck? You’re seventeen, dude.

And, by the way, Diabeetus, you better be fucking going to a private high school, because otherwise guess who’s forking over money to who?

wow i thought flip-flopping was only a term used for john kerry’s campaign. i guess i’m not hip with the times.

You guys should learn the difference between “who” and “whom”. That’s more important than politics.

Those were really killer arguments Caio.

Obama – Taking an axe to the Status Quo…

McCain – Burying that axe in our backs…

uh, no. our infrastructure is pretty flexible when it comes to transporting fuel around the country. We’re already capable of moving all the regular gas around and just about 100% able to move all the ethanol around that we’ll need. We have fuel stations already located where they need to be, and ports and what not exactly where the need to be.

so, pray tell, what exactly do we need to change? Also: companies like Exxon/Mobil have been having record breaking profits over the last several years (thanks W!). Are they putting that money back into the petroleum only systems, or are they holding off to see what technologies present them selves to be viable for the future?

here’s a hint: Exxon/Mobil alone has over $50 Billion in cash reserves. that’s a shit ton of money.

Vote Cthulu in 2008: Why vote for a lesser evil?

    @tiki god

I agree, the US is good about transporting petroleum fuels. It’s transported through a rather large system of pipelines, terminals and stations, with one petroleum product pushing another. The unfortunate thing is, ethanol is too corrosive to transport through existing pipelines. It has to be transported with tanker trucks and mixed at fueling stations. This means a good portion of the existing infrastructre (pipelines, ports, etc.) isn’t capable of handling ethanol based fuels.

As to how much energy companies make, it’s actually a mute point when you consider it on the entire scale. Yes, Exxon, Shell, et all, are making fist loads of cash, but combined American Oil companies only control about 7% or proven oil reserves worldwide. The other 93% are controlled by large, nationalized oil companies. Just think how much money the governments of China, Saudia Arabia, & Russia are making from their oil industry. Do you really expect US Oil companies to compete with entire countries if they didn’t make a lot of money? By that I mean, it costs $1 million dollars a day, domestically, to drill an oil well. So if you’re drilling on a few hundred wells a day those cash reserves go pretty fast.

And the reason gas prices are so high has so many different factors it’s silly. Here’s a few:

Different states have different requirements for gasoline. This causes refineries to have to produce different blends and octanes of gasoline. If the US had a standard, gas would be cheaper.

Oil is valued in US dollars. To maintain an equivalent value in foreign currency the cost per barrel of oil fluctuates with the dollar. The lower the value of the dollar, the higher the cost of a barrel of oil.

Political instability in areas of major production like the Middle East causes increased speculation as to the availablity of oil.

Oil is openly traded as a commodity.

I realize a lot of this is generalized, but trust me. I work for “Big Oil”. I know what I’m talking about.
