You know, if I had a vagina, I don’t think I’d want anything that closely resembling a fishing hook anywhere near it, let alone inside it.

well, i rent one, and i say do whatever you have to do to keep that most feared of STD’s away from me.

It goes in your uterus, not your vagina. Though I guess it has to go through there first.

Basically it just pisses your uterus off so it kills all the sperm and eggs that enter it.

Hey, surprisingly, they’re not painful at all. I’ve had mine in for a considerable amount of time, and it works very well 🙂

My wife has had her I.U.D. in for almsot 9 years now. And no kids since the last one. The thing they say is it should be used by woman who have only one partner.

purple banana – Mine isn’t painful either! 😀 Although when they first put it in… the actual “installation”, if you will… o lawd, THAT part hurt like the dickens. But the pain subsided, fortunately.
naked – They say one partner because IUDs do nothing to protect against STDs… just against pregnancy. I take it, if she’s had the same one for 9 years, it’s the classic copper one, and not the Mirena? Mirena is plastic and has a hormonal dose, only good for… 5 years? I SHOULD remember, it’s what I have :/

    Best invention ever.

um… It’s an IUD (inter uterary device) it pokes the uterary wall so that even if an ovum is fertilized and clings to the wall, the uteris just flushes itself out anyways… and it’s more like the past of birth control

Yeah, I’ll stick to my anti-baby pills, thank you.

I have one of these, I’ll sing its praises all day long.

A wonderful side effect, they say, in 30% of women including myself- cessation of periods. That’s worth the cost of admission alone!!

Yes, actually getting the thing was a bit… interesting, especially since I’ve never procreated, but I intend on celebrating my 5 year anniversary with a brand new one. (Got that, Mythstae? :))

My wife used one of these after each of our first two pregnancies.
They work superbly! And they are easy to remove. We had her’s taken out and, within a month, we were pregnant again.
