Slightly off-topic, but lately I’ve been getting bored of plain old atheism. It’s almost too easy. I thinking of starting/joining some sort of Nordic influenced Gnosticism cult. Any suggestions or interested followers?

BECOME AN SATANIST!!!!
February 16, 2011 at 9:35 pm
Same zzzzzzzzz story.

Isn’t Satanism more of a philosophical standpoint than a theology?
I once heard of a Norse branch of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster that claimed the original holy texts were misinterpreted; that it was truly Vikings, not Pirates, that were the holiest of beings.
I can’t find anything on it now, but that might be up your alley…

Nah. Anything FSM is too much hipster irony. I’m trying to come up with something with some kernel of sincerity to it.

I worship THOR.
would you like to join me in my worship?
we drink beer and sing of epic battles, all the while winking suggestively at the women across the bar.

Maybe. I would need to know about the specifics of the singing.

Atheism is too easy because there is nothing to it. Wow, I hold the opinion that the pursuit of supernatural divinity is a fruitless endeavor. That’s what atheism is, not praising Dawkins, explaining the big bang or evolution, or proselytizing against theology.

Why are we even discussing why Atheism is easy or not, it’s a mindset, not a hobby.

Personal philosophies aren’t a game. The truth isn’t supposed to amuse you.
February 17, 2011 at 3:03 am
Personal philosophies can be whatever they want. That’s what makes them so much fun.

…and personal.

Not counting the plagues caused by god, of course.

There’s no proof that believing that you have an accountability to a greater power has any effect on your moral choices.
So much for keeping the sheep in check.

Yes there absolutely is from everything from AA to the thousands of other groups created for that specific purpose.
So much for your entire argument.

AA actually has a slightly worse record than quitting cold turkey on your own and is even worse after 5 years.
May 11, 2012 at 9:10 am
The AA is a religious recruiting scam designed to take advantage of people when they are most vulnerable.

Maybe god works under the fairy rule, the less people that believe in him, the weaker his power.
