“Marvel Zombies” Review

Marvel Zombies: Created by Zeb Wells. With Iman Vellani, Todd Williams, David Boat, Robin Atkin Downes. After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking their lives to save their world.

A blink and you’ll miss it show, I don’t think I saw much advertising for this and after I watched the first episode it disappeared from the “Featured Shows” slideshow that D+ has. I think I made a mistake by signing up for the combined Hulu/D+/ESPN subscription because now the D+ app is absolutely littered with sports nonsense and shows from Hulu that don’t fit with the Disney esthetic, which honestly this show doesn’t really fit with Disney either. I honestly think they need to split out the MCU stuff in a way that doesn’t have the Disney name on it, because when I think of Disney, I don’t think of reanimated corpses using the powers of hell to take over the planet.

I loved the show for what it was, which is the MCU’s version of the Marvel Zombies comic series. Much like the rest of the MCU, the names of series and storylines have very little in common with the comics they’re cribbing their content from, often with no credit or compensation given to the original creators, which leads to a larger conversation about contract work that I’m not going to touch.

The animation here is top notch, the voice work is great, and the story fits in the wider MCU multiverse, so if you’re either a fan of the original comic series or the MCU, try to figure out where you can watch this.
