I’ve seen this story a few times, this was a funny take on it. I like Adam Scott and I like Evangeline Lilly. If you liked this story when you’ve seen it before, you’ll likely like this version of it.

File under: movies to watch while doing something else because you know that the kid is actually the devil and funny stuff is going to happen because Adam Scott is a serious comedian who I just realized I think I’d want to write and perform my next motivational speech.

At the end of the day I think a better subtitle for this movie would have been “The Scorpion King 4: The Further Adventures of Hercules”, I really did expect Kevin Sorbo to show up towards the end there, these two series share a very specific campy humor and low budget feel.

Principal Ronald Douche (Keegan-Michael Key of “Key and Peele”) runs Truman High School, a school filled with crazy faculty and out of control students. When one teacher, Mr. Carter, wins Teacher of the Year, other schools fight to steal him from Truman High and he is left with the choice: go where he is actually wanted, or stay where he is so desperately, hilariously needed?

I believe this was filmed before ‘Key and Peele’ really made it big and Keegan-Michael Key became the hot commodity that he is now, if only because this film isn’t about his character at all, only has like 4 or 5 scenes, and seems shoe horned in around the ‘real’ story of how under appreciated teachers are and how it’s no big surprise that they jump ship at their first opportunity.

That being said, it’s a good film and Matt Letscher (Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) did a great job as a good teacher that wants to help those that need his help but keeps getting beaten down by a broken system and kids that don’t fit well in it for obvious reasons. It’s much more of an emotional movie than I thought it was going to be, I’ve been on both sides of some of the situations presented here (instructor, not a certified teacher) and man does the nail get hit right on the head.

I suggest it, just be aware that The Douche only appears a few times.

I’ll note too that Victor Webster, who is the lead actor playing The Scorpion King in this third movie (direct to video, as to be expected) reminds me greatly of of Jason Mantzoukas, both his voice and some of his mannerisms are similar.

This wasn’t a great film, but it wasn’t a terrible one either, just as long as you completely throw out the mythos that was set in the previous Mummy/Scorpion films, as the Scorpion King is back to being a puckish rogue assassin and not an evil king that would eventually become a man/scorpion hybrid demon monster.

I think this may be the 10th or 15th time I’ve watch this and I just now noticed that Norman Reedus is here as one of the ship’s crew?

Also, I love Antje Traue, she was one of the best parts of Man of Steel and she was great in Pandorum, I wish she would do more movies.

honestly, this was a great movie.  it’s pretty low budget, but there’s some good super hero tropes here with some pretty interesting acting choices.  Not going to win any awards, but this movie really spoke to me as a comic fan.  If you’ve seen both the original tv series and this movie, how do they compare?
