Daughter Of The Jungle review

Two young men are in Amazonia filming a documentary. They are captured by the natives and their situation seems hopeless. The landing of a seaplane instills their trust, but they fall from the frying pan into the fire. The newly arrived are adventurers who came to look for rubies using the natives as slaves and are led by the evil Dupré.

It’s exactly what the fake cover would lead you to think it is, an enjoyable sexplotation movie set in the deep jungle, with chimpanzees and elephants.

Lives on Amazon Prime, at the very very end of a very esoteric category of movies. The movie poster they have for it features a woman that doesn’t actually appear in the movie, but sorta looks like the lead jungle lady that captures the hearts and minds of the two idiots that got themselves lost in the deep jungle.  I check out these crappy films from time to time because sometimes, just sometimes, they turn out to not be the terrible slop that they present themselves as, and end up being a film that had the poor fortune of having a lot of heart but no budget.  Luckily, this was the latter, the story and acting are unfortunate and there’s a gratuitous amount of female nudity, but there’s evidence that they were having a lot of fun making the movie.

Omega Sub #6 Raven Rising review

This is it, the final book in the Omega Sub series. The series concept was pretty great, the execution of the idea though came up short. There’s a mary sue character in charge of the ship, his brother is a mary sue character and everyone else? they’re just not up to the captain’s example. Take their head engineer, he has a name, but he’s referred to as “Flazy” throughout the series, which stands for “fat and lazy”. Yes, the guy that’s responsible for the most advanced nuclear submarine in the Navy is a fat and lazy s.o.b. that can’t even get his captain’s respect. Perhaps the captain is too busy with his nearly perfect girlfriend for introspection. Did I mention that she’s the only lady on the ship and despite the rules that the captain mentions several times, she’s there to kiss him whenever he does his brave duty.

ugh.

Add to the list of things that I didn’t like about the series: the science. Here’s page 154 of the book I just finished, the last paragraph is specifically what made me roll my eyes :

And finally, the politics involved here were just silly. There’s an entire paragraph given to how silly it was to start monitoring our waterways for acidic rain and how all that money was wasted in trying to preserve our national assets.

Mini Metro game review

Mini Metro is a game about designing a subway map for a growing city. Draw lines between stations and start your trains running. Keep your routes efficient by redrawing them as new stations open. Decide where to use your limited resources. How long can you keep the city moving?

I was able to snag this in a PC coin sale on Chrono.gg, I’ve had my eye on it for a while, and since those coins were technically “free” I figured this was a good opportunity to try it out, and I’m happy I did!

Mini Metro is highly addictive and has a very simple concept. You have to get people from point A to point B. Then, point C appears, and new points continue to appear over the course of the game until there’s too many people waiting at each of the points and the level ends. there’s no tutorial because honestly, that’s it. There’s some power ups and you can add in new trains and cars to the trains as you advance, along with an “unlimited” mode where there are no overloaded terminals, just people wanting to get from point A to point B. Games usually last about 5-10 minutes, maybe if you get really damn good at it they can last longer, but I have’t had one go longer than 15 minutes.

I highly suggest the game, with the one small caveat is that this is the type of pattern matching game that made me dream about it last night, something that hasn’t happened in a while.

Jessica Jones Season 2 review

This series had a very rough first season, the only saving graces being the supporting characters (Mike Colter and David Tennant specifically) and unfortunately season two just doubles down on the angst and alcoholism and leaves out character development, much to my chagrin. Unless there’s something that directly leads into The Defenders season 2 (if it ever happens) I’m going to be skipping any further adventures of Jessica Jones, she just isn’t worth my time.

The only saving grace of season two is that they finally nailed down what her actual powers are: she’s strong.  That’s it.  It was heavily implied in The Defenders that she could fly while carrying an elevator, but it seems that wasn’t a correct implication.
