    My Name Is Bruce

    51qrnyqbFfL My Name Is Bruce

Mistaken for his character Ash from the ‘Evil Dead’ trilogy, Bruce Campbell is forced to fight a real monster in a small Oregon town.

Bruce Campbell has always seemed like a boorish delight, I’ve never met him personally, but I feel like he’d be a hoot to hang out, have some drinks, and fight the undead with. All his roles have a pretty standard feel to them and this film is no different, so if you like him, this is a great movie to check out.

    Curse Words TPBs 1 & 2

    615y7ApOWLL Curse Words TPBs 1 & 261dqYjG2VZL Curse Words TPBs 1 & 2

A wizard has appeared in present-day New York! His name is Wizord, and he’s here to save us all from dark magical forces bent on our destruction. He’s the best wizard of all time! Or…he’s not, and he’s lying to everyone, and secretly is the dark magical force, but wants to hang out in our world for a while because it’s so much nicer than the hellhole he comes from. Secrets, and spells, and talking koalas—CURSE WORDS is a gonzo dark fantasy from CHARLES SOULE (Daredevil, Letter 44, Star Wars) and RYAN BROWNE (GOD HATES ASTRONAUTS).

Image Comics has this great program named “Image Firsts” in which they reprint first issues of books that are about to go to TPB or are doing well enough that they think they can grab a larger audience by practically giving away the first issue. It’s a clever idea that Marvel is also doing with their “True Believer” books, but I’ve actually not found anything that was of interest to me yet from all the Marvel $1 comics, yet with the Image ones, I think I’m up to 5 or 6 different series that I would have never tried that I think I’m going to buy collections of.

The first that I’ve bought from is Curse Words, which has a familiar story of someone being sent somewhere to destroy a place or person, only to fall in love with said place/person and defending it against the powers that sent them there in the first place. What makes this particular story unique is that there’s a talking koalas named Margaret, there’s a great backstory and the main story moves in a pretty rapid pace, no filler content here! Another reason is that these trades were pretty cheap, just $10 each!

    Train to Busan

A1ObY5LTX0L. RI SX300 Train to Busan

While a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan.

This movie has been on my watchlist for about as long as it’s been on Netflix, but I’ve never found the time to sit down and watch it, primarily due to the subtitles. Sure it looks like a fun movie, but it’s rare that I’m able to focus 100% of my attention on the screen to catch every word that goes up, but this last weekend Hurrican Michael rolled through and knocked out power for nearly everyone in my city, about 300k homes completely without power. It really sucked, but I had a tablet and a hotspot on my phone…well I had a hot spot after they put up a couple more Verizon towers, the original ones were knocked over and stomped on by the storm. So day two, I was able to watch a movie or two on my newish kindle fire, which was surprising to me. Back when I got my first tablet it could do books for about 14 hours of screen time and movies for about 2, but apparently this new tech gives me about 8 hours of movies and damn near two weeks of reading books on the kindle app.

All that’s to say, this movie was better than I was assuming it was going to be. Sure, there’s a necessary level of camp involved in any zombie story, but they never went over the line to be a comedy, and the final scene in the train tunnel was a damn tear jerker.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1992 movie

81J0Pdj3ZnL. RI SX300 Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992 movie)

Air-headed high school cheerleader Buffy reluctantly accepts her destiny – to become her generation’s warrior in the never-ending war against vampires! Campy fun, with Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens.

I’m not sure how I was able to get through the entire TV series without watching the movie. I was not expecting this level of camp, nor the low budget feel to the effects and sets, though I guess I shouldn’t be surprised considering the premise.

    The TV show was better.
