    Shutter Island

Directed by Martin Scorsese. With Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Mortimer, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley. In 1954, a U.S. Marshal investigates the disappearance of a murderer who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane.

I heard there was a twist and saw it coming from a mile away. The only really interesting thing here is the question of if a sane man would do what he did at the end. Seems like a catch 22 to me.

    The Gentlemen

Directed by Guy Ritchie. With Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong. An American expat tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire in London, triggering plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.

Not many gentlemen in this movie, but what would you expect from a director like Guy Ritchie. I didn’t know this was one of his films or I likely wouldn’t have watched it, I’ve been less than impressed with his style of shooting, but this one turned out to be slightly more than I could have expected from him. It helped he had such a strong cast, but that slightly weird Ritchie style was still there poking through every scene.

Picked up at a con for $2 for the first 4 issues. It’s a pretty lame story with a character that I remember liking as a kid, but hasn’t aged very gracefully.

This is the story of how Marvel superheroes finally got back to the primary universe after being kicked out of it by the combined powers of Charles Xavier (evil) and Franklin Richards (good). I remember the main line series being less than great, but this bridge miniseries is absolutely fantastic, and no surprise, it’s written by Peter David, who was a hot commodity at the time this series rolled through. I still read nearly everything the man writes, but it seems like the rest of the world has moved on to newer authors.
