Well...it would do very little. The idea is to avoid the shock-wave of heat by hiding sturdy objects. Granted this would only marginally increase your chances of survival, but unless you want to build an underground city like the Soviets, it may be the least worst option you would have.

Yup. But if I were given the opportunity to drive a 50 ton steel beast, I'd probably hot rod it too. - Comment on Drink Me (2012-10-05 19:43:27)

The shot is too close and narrow to see any escorts if they are there, but there are events which don't require escorts. Reminds me of the JFK (which was decommissioned in 2007), because airwing is absent and we couldn't do much other than piddle off the coast for a weekend a month...until one of the rudders fell off. Good times. - Comment on chinese battle ships (2011-04-05 20:41:53)
Not Chinese in design, construction, or commission, but I applaud the effort. - Comment on pre911 uss kennedy (2010-07-21 12:53:28)
Yeah, it is being tugged and is not moving under its own power. - Comment on pre911 uss kennedy (2010-07-20 21:05:25)
It could have used a lot of preventive maintenance too. When it decommissioned in '07, it was a rust bucket.
