Why is he described as the first? I recall many stories of people who were there receiving sentences of about 60 days, including that blond woman who said nobody would convict her because she was white & blond & pretty. (She was wrong). Or were they charged with misdemeanours and this one is a felony?

“First” because everyone else, so far, has simply pled out; this guy took it to trial.

I may be the only court nerd around these parts, but the trial was kind of laughable. His defense attorney spent the whole time telling jurors that the Government wasn’t going to present any evidence that this jack-off assaulted any police officers, or any of a number of other crimes that he was not charged with. The defense presented no defense, at all, against what he was, in fact, charged with. And, quelle surprise, the jury’s verdict affirmed that.
