    Why do Americans assume everybody else has no knowledge of geography? London England, Paris France, Tehran Iran… Where else would they be?

    my favorite of these types of names is “Cairo, GA”, but it’s not pronounced the same way at all, it’s pronounced “Kay-Row”

    Agreed! All of those require a qualifier unless the context makes clear which London or Paris is being discussed. London generally doesn’t. The “England” would be otiose. As is the “Iran” in the current context.
