Blue Ringed Octopus, if not treated the bite from that little fucker is fatal, for those of you who were wondering, treatment is as follows
Apply Pressure Immobilization Bandage and splint immediately
don’t allow the casualty to move, can an ambulance asap.

Just thought id let yas know cause there’s bound to be somebody here that would go “OOO CUTE!” and grab that nasty bastard.

Nasty little f*ckers, but getting stung is not that common

At least four known fatalities from around 50-60 envenomations over the last 25 years. There are probably many more than are unrecorded.

The worst thing about the blue-ring is that human victims may be “completely paralysed and unable to respond, sometimes with fixed dilated pupils, but the sensorium is often intact”. That is, if you’re stung you can still see and hear you, but are completely unable to move and appear stone dead.

Best thing to do is maintain heart massage and mouth-to-mouth until you can get them to an anti-venom unit.

This is why I love being Australian.

Had them things in Okinawa. Couldnt tell the diff between them and normal octopus most of the time, those blue rings are like a rattlesnakes rattles: not deployed until annoyed. When the thing goes white with bright blue rings? Oh yeah, it is pissed. Time to stop poking at it and get the hell out of there.

They’re as common as all fuck in certain parts of South Australia, so are redback spiders and king brown snakes. Fortunately they all rarely ever bite anyone as they are rather shy and we’re all taught from a young age to stay the fuck away from them.

yeah i found one in a rockpool on the South Aus coast when I was a kid. Tiny little thing could fit in my hand, but even at that age I knew damn well not to touch that little fucker.
    Kinda like yo’ crotch
