Red tide is an algae bloom. It makes you sick: head cold symptoms for weeks, runny nose, stings your eyes, kills wildlife, gets in the air making my allergies/asthma act up, irritates your skin, makes the ocean dirtier than normal and always seems to come when the surf is good.
