    For many years (200 or so) there was a tree growing on the outfield of Canterbury cricket ground.

    But it died.

    How does a brilliant display of stupidity reduce human arrogance? The idea that planting a tree can somehow change the forces of nature is human arrogance at its core.

    Based on JamesTuskGeorge’s summary, I figured it was a nice gesture to replace a tree that was destroyed by winds in order to keep the tradition alive.

    It was nice to not take down the tree in the first place, that’s the part I liked. As opposed to destroying them for the sake of entertainment.

    You gonna bitch about PLANTING trees? Boy, I need to get my priorities straight.
