Bite Me: Big Easy Nights (Wearing the Cape Series Book #1.5)

It was supposed to be a working vacation… For Jacky Bouchard (aka, Artemis: vampire, former night-stalking dark avenger, and reluctant superhero), a trip to the Big Easy was a chance to solidify her new Bouchard identity, meet the grandmother she didn’t know she had, and do a favor for the New Orleans Police Department by helping them keep an eye on their local vampires. Watching a bunch of fashion-obsessed goths with fangs should have been easy, but now she’s dressing in black and sleeping in a coffin even though living the whole Fiend of The Night stereotype makes her want to vomit. And for someone working undercover, she is getting attacked a lot. When Jacky learns that a master vampire capable of siring progeny with his blood (an urban myth—vampires don’t reproduce that way) may be haunting New Orleans, she decides to go hunting. But the streets of the French Quarter are dangerous when you don’t know who is hunting you, and Jacky finds herself in trouble up to her neck and needing all the help she can get…

I think I read this one slightly out of order and really wish I hadn’t spent the time, as I’m not a huge vampire fan and this story felt uneven and like I was missing the first act that actually went into why Artemis was even down in New Orleans and how she came to find her grandmother down there.

    Women in Trouble

Women in Trouble: Directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. With Carla Gugino, Adrianne Palicki, Dan Mailley, Connie Britton. A serpentine day in the life of ten seemingly desperate women: a porn star, a flight attendant, a psychiatrist, a masseuse, a bartender, a pair of call girls, an actress, a masseuse. All of them with one crucial thing in common. Trouble.

I knew what I was in for, but I wasn’t expecting Adrianne Palicki to openly say “I really want to eat your pussy.” while playing a porn star who has issues with cars backing into her and some PTSD from a self inflicted sexual event from her youth.

What I also wasn’t expecting was to enjoy this film as much as I did, the story was engaging and the actors were all great, despite the decidedly puerile topics they cover at times, interweaved with some really heavy stuff about adulthood and finding your way to where you want to be in life. There’s no nudity, but a whole bunch of pretty ladies in various stages of undress and sexual situations, so I enjoyed it like the 13 year old boy I still am.
