Multiple wildfires that began on June 28, 2015, are ongoing in parts of Washington state. As of September 3, 2015 as many as 3,000 firefighters were deployed against fires that had burned over 900,000 acres (3,600 km 2) of land. On August 21, President Barack Obama declared the fires a federal emergency.
