Bofur vs. Subotai

Three things that bug me about Peter Jackson’s dwarves:
1- Some dwarves look like handsome humans… do I really need the leading male dwarf to look like Brad Pitt?
2- One dwarf looks like fat bastard. You saw it too.
3- Another dwarf (Bofur) looks like Subotai from Conan the Barbarian.
It all comes together as a very commercial movie that adapted a classic to meet todays consumers. It was a lost opportunity to introduce todays consumers to a classic.

One Million Bones

The Art of Revolution covered the National Mall with one million hand-made bones as a “visible petition against ongoing genocide and mass atrocities in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, Somalia, and Syria.”

The bones, made of various materials ranging from paper maché to clay, were made over the past 3 years by students, educators, artists, and activists from 30 countries.

This one raven, Archie — There’s a still of me looking terrified with a bandage on or something, and I’m looking at this bird. That’s real terror. I hated that bird! That bird — every morning if I was on the set, we were on the set together, would come over and go “Ungg!” and bite me. And I hated him, and he hated me.

Even when we came back to the studio. And I think that shot on the veranda was taken in the studio. I’d walk in and say, “Is Archie working today?” And they’d say, “I don’t think so, Rod. I think we’re working with seagulls.” And out of the rafters would come Archie. And, you know, hated me. And would lie in wait for me. And I’m sure that bird’s still alive!
