Last Woman on Earth

No clue how I missed this in my period where I was watching every post-apocalyptic film I could get my hands on, but here it is, one of the first versions of the story that I’ve run into. Released in 1960, it’s a full 25 years before “The Quiet Earth” which has the same conceit of “what happens when you’re the last person on earth, find out there’s a woman, then find out there’s another man?” The details are all different, but I believe this is the earliest example of this type of story.
It’s not bad either, Betsy Jones-Moreland is downright captivating as the ‘kept’ woman of a super rich guy always in trouble with the local politicians and the dynamic between the two male leads is believable and entertaining.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

I never thought that we’d get one good Sonic movie, much less TWO good Sonic films, especially after the disaster that was the original trailer for the first film. Somewhere along the line though, they figured it out, refined nostalgia for a wildly popular video game franchise, and delivered a fuzzy experience that I enjoyed not once, but twice. There’s only one scene that I thought was weird and out of place, but I can look past a single scene that makes no sense in the context of a film that delivers on everything that 8 year old me could have asked for in a motion picture adaption about a Super Sonic Hedgehog, his buddy fox with two tails that can fly, and big fisted echidna that’s been hoodwinked by a literally mustache twirling villain played by the still extremely talented Jim Carrey.
I got to see it in theaters too, which I was boycotting AMC while we figured out some overcharges / chargebacks with their completely broken customer support system. Word to the wise, if you’re using A-List, don’t bother with emailing them, take your support issue directly to the theater you go to and speak to the team there. It’s hard to ignore your 15 emails if you’re standing right there in front of them.
