Severance

Delightfully atmospheric and mind boggling weird, my only complaint is that season one doesn’t wrap up the story, so we’ll have to wait for season two to (maybe?) wrap up this strange story of people living two lives inside of one body.

Per wikipedia, the film was conceived of, written, produced, filmed, and released all within a few months of the global covid-19 pandemic breaking national borders and infecting hundreds of millions and killing millions of those that were unable to fight off the infection. The movie feels as crass as you would expect, with a barebones story of an immune man trying to save his presumably immune girlfriend from the corrupt government that’s forcing all the non-immune people into a “Q-Zone” where they’re presumably living great lives, just like your dog that went upstate to the farm. Most of the action beats aren’t very good and the finale is just rubbish, but I’m happy to have been able to see this, just to tell you that you shouldn’t.
