Faith is the belief in something absent evidence for that belief. That's the literal meaning. I really don't understand how the FUCK the first response to that is always "B-B-But how can you have faith in something that you can't prove?" GAAAAAAHHHH! Yes, religion is used for nefarious reasons. Guess what? So is math. and education. and science. Get the fuck over it. People base their lives and world-view on social and political systems that have nothing to do with religion, in which bullshit is still a functional component. Rational self interest may have been what brought us out of the trees originally, but it is also why tigers eat their young. The truth is you, along with every single other atheist on earth are no doubt a stout paragon of virtue, with a perfectly tuned moral compass and an honor system set in stone. This is obvious by the way you all talk about yourselves. Absolutely no problems there. I'm so sorry that the rest of the world has not yet reached your supreme level of social and intellectual advancement. They actually still do need a space-monkey or santa clause or whatever keeping track of them and threatening them with hell. Until the rest of of us catch up with you, can we please just believe what the fuck we want to believe without our apples being intellectually challenged all the time by your oranges? We are just do what ALL HUMANS FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME have done. It's hard to hold the moral high ground, when you lecture and belittle people for their beliefs. The problem is not the assumption that self-defense is a legitimate purpose, of course it is. Just like a legitimate purpose for nuclear weapons is to win a war.
