The best explanation I have heard is that the leg is actually from a lizard that the snake ate. The leg popped out of a hole made when the snake was wacked by the shoe. There's an obvious food lump around the leg.

Looks a bit low to the ground. How would it go over speed bumps? Otherwise, it's pretty.

@gor Oops, I meant non-bipedal animals. There are many robots based on snakes, bugs, dogs, etc. Why needlessly complicate it with bipedal motion? Bipedal robots do look neat but are a pain in the ass to get working right. They are getting better though, and passing into the "Uncanny Valley" creepy zone.

@luvmachine It is not structurally sound to build a robot that large. Its weight would cause many problems, such as the ground crushing under its feet with every step. Give it a shove and it'll topple over. Another issue is that there aren't really any metals that we could use to build a real one that would be strong enough for the job. One thing that bugs me is the hands most giant robots seem to possess. Generally their only function is to hold a gun, which they can drop. Why not just weld the gun to the end of the arm? As a roboticist, this type of robot always annoys me. Doesn't stop me from watching anime though. Biologically inspired robots based upon animals are a much better idea.
