In all honesty, don’t talk to the cute girl on the train or bus unless she talks to you first. It stinks of desperation and that’s never a good start.
You would rather the person who stinks of desperation talks to you first then?
So you would be ok with it if some desperate dude started hitting on you on the bus?
And don’t try to change the topic by saying, “I wouldn’t mind if its a girl, derp-a-dur”. Because if we establish that its socially acceptable to hit on people on the bus, the floodgates are open, you’ve lost the opportunity for selectivity.
Or you could just… I dunno… be friendly to people. y’know strike up conversation regardless of their bra size/gender/mode of transport – and if there is a spark, then you can decide wether or not to ‘hit’ on them. Its not a fucking mail-shot campaign.

I disagree, I like it when people talk to me on the bus. I’m never sure how to start a conversation and talking means less time staring at my phone. Just don’t start it with “I hope I’m not overstepping my bounds” or you’ll look like a ponce.
Don’t try to pick them up in the first sentence either.
^^This. I’m a little more outgoing than I used to be…which isn’t saying much. I’ve always been extremely shy and most of my friends found me and initiated contact. It’s a good thing that, growing up, I had a large family around me, so I wasn’t a completely social idiot. We get away w/ being shy as girls, it must be difficult for men that are really shy.
