During the winter here in Florida, manatees converge at various power plants where the off-shooting water heats the waters around it to be 5-10 degrees warmer. This small difference often saves the lives of hundreds of manatees.

    How the fuck are blubber puppies dying of cold in tropical/sub-tropical waters (which are already warmer than when they evolved in them)?

    Because these guys go all the way up into the panhandle and it dips into the low 30s up here.

    they’re also probably not gaining or maintaining their weight since a lot of the grasses they eat are dying off due to red algae blooms
