One of the bills would leave the Stone Mountain carving intact, but would end its maintenance.

Bring in some tanks, use it for target practice… Presto. It’s gone.

The majority of Confederate monuments were erected in the run-up to and during the Civil Rights Struggle (kinda like how no one cared about the so-called Confederate Flag for a good 50 years after the war). They were intended to intimidate blacks into not rising up and demanding equal treatment. Kinda backfired.

I agree completely, it should be removed from public enhancements and exaltation and properly contextualized so that the people that visit public spaces aren’t given the impression that the actions of these racists are acceptable in a modern setting.
