Wonder Woman 1984

Directed by Patty Jenkins. With Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal. Rewind to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.

I’m disappointed that I spent $15 on HBO Max to watch this. It’s an ok film, a generic super hero story with a well used storyline that doesn’t even use Wonder Woman in a way that makes her feel like a great super hero (which she is) but more of a generic character that gets new powers by just thinking about them for a while. There’s bad physics all over the place, and they’ve completely changed both of the main villain’s origins, which is always a strong indicator that the writers just didn’t understand the source materials and couldn’t be bothered to try to work them into their own unique and special story. I’m particularly bitter about Max Lord, who really isn’t like his comic book version at all, other than in name alone. He was one of my favorite parts of the Justice League comics back and in the day and it’s a shame to see him reduced in nearly every way in this film.

Additionally, there’s a mid credits scene that leaves me with a few questions, but I’ll leave those for another day when I do a rewatch.

There’s a clip from the movie that was making the rounds on twitter – I’d link it but the studio is aggressively hunting it down and DMCA’ing it because, well, fuck fair use I guess – where she lassos a missile to save some arab kids playing soccer. It was hilariously bad, with clunky CGI, shit lighting and editing, and the kids were obviously manequins for part of the sequence. All of which pales in comparison to how grotesque it was to include a scene like this considering that just five years ago 4 young boys were killed playing soccer… Read more »

This movie was horrible. The writing is ridiculous. The plot was stupid. It was a snooze fest.

    Agreed.
    And Gadot can’t act.

Right? She is a terrible actor! Gal Gadot is the Antonio Banderas of female actors. She is incapable of losing her accent! She comes from the Island of the Amazons, where every woman speaks 500 languages,,, but, she is the ONLY person with an accent?!? WTF

I’m also confused….where did they find a fighter jet aircraft fully fueled and prepped ready to fly from DC to Egypt….?

This movie has some problems. It feels like they had 3 or 4 scripts, filmed parts of all of them and then tried to edit them together to make one coherent movie. It didn’t work.
