when i was in the tech school, in the mid 1980s, i used to play a game called “stump the reference librarian”, where i would call the local library’s reference line (proto-google) and ask them questions. my favourite question was this: There are three acronyms, associated with the US military, which describe the situation in question with varying degrees of “fucked-up-ness”. the first is SNAFU, which stands for “Systems Normal, All Fucked Up”, and the third is FUBAR, which stands for “Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition”. what is the middle (comparitive) acronym?
