Secret Avengers Vol 1 Mission to Mars review

51rALh0OouL Secret Avengers, Vol. 1: Mission to Mars

Collects Secret Avengers #1-5. Who are the Secret Avengers? Are they a covert team of heroes working the darkest corners of the globe to stop disaster? Are they part-spy, part-super hero? Are they Steve Rogers’ newest idea to save the world…or all they all of the above?

There wasn’t much of a “previously on” in this, the FIRST BOOK of the comic series. I have no idea why Captain America is running around all secretively and why there’s multiple Avengers teams out there during this time period. Even more frustrating they go off to Mars to fight a bad guy that’s been around longer than any other villain you’ve ever heard of and they wipe the floor with him in just a couple issues. It was way over the top and not very enjoyable at all and I regret spending money on the book.

I’m going to stop buying Marvel books, the last few I’ve bought have been like this, utterly confusing unless you’ve bought into the storyline for the last 20 years and no appropriate sense of scale for the storylines that they put out. I have a pile of about 50 more Marvel books to go through, so while I have doubts that any of the others are going to be any good, I’ll give them their fair shake.
