Modern Republicans don’t know what “compromise” means. They have it confused with “complete submission.”

When they say they want Democrats to “compromise,” they actually want the Dems to roll over and give them whatever they want while getting nothing in return.

The “compromise” he wanted on slavery was for it’s opponents to give up the fight and let people continue to own humans as property from generation to generation (which is what made American slavery particularly bad… never before did people own the children of their slaves… then again, this was the first time slaves were allowed to start families).
