Mention of “British Empire” and “Canada” kind of detracts from this important British achievement. The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) was Brit Regular Army and Territorials (~National Guard)raised in the UK. While as ever, there were many from the Empire within the British ranks, the BEF was very much a Brit show. IOW they did it with the French and Belgians and largely without anyone else.

Correct…technically there were no Canadian regiments in Dunkirk at the time.
But a significant number of the Manchester Regiment (which suffered major losses at Dunkirk) were Canadian…and had been recruited directly into the regiment in a recruitment drive at Halifax.

Not many Canadians…fewer than a thousand if I remember…but not insignificant either.

I believe there was an RCAF Hurricane Squadron which participated in the Battle of France in 1940.

The movie does look quite good, but I have had a great deal of apprehension about WW II since Windtalkers…
